About Top Hat · Springdale, AR
One chimney sweep in 1983. A full chimney and roofing crew today.
Top Hat Chimney & Roofing was founded in 1983 as a one man chimney sweeping service. It has grown into a certified team that cares for chimneys, fireplaces, venting, roofs and gutters for homes and businesses in Northwest Arkansas, the River Valley, Missouri and Oklahoma.
How the work grew
What began as basic chimney care in 1983 did not stay basic for long. Anyone who spends their days on rooftops and in fireplaces sees what goes wrong: cracked liners, crumbling mortar, caps that are missing or rusted through, flashing that has let water in for years. Each of those problems asked for a skill the business did not yet offer, so the business added it.
Sweeping led to inspections, from a quick visual Level 1 to a Level 2 with a video scan of the flue liner. Inspections led to masonry repair, liner replacement and smoke chamber work. Repairs led to fireplace, insert and stove installation, and to the venting that goes with them. Over time the team took on dryer vents, industrial stacks, roof repair and replacement, skylights, gutters and siding. Today it serves residential and commercial customers, and the shop on North 40th Street in Springdale is where the crew starts each day.
The company still thinks like a chimney sweep. Before anything gets fixed, somebody gets up there and looks, takes photos, and explains what the photos show.
Why one crew matters
The chimney and the roof around it are one leak path
A wet ceiling near a chimney rarely has a single cause. The water might come in through a cracked crown, a rusted chase cover, a worn cap, failed step or counter flashing, or the roof deck beside the stack. A chimney specialist who does not roof can only point at the roofline. A roofer who does not do masonry can only point at the brick.
Top Hat works both sides. Because the same crew handles chimney repair and roofing, it can say where the water is really entering and fix the whole path, instead of sending you from one contractor to another. That is the reason the company kept adding trades rather than staying a sweep.

In the customers' words
“This is our third year using Top Hat for care of our chimney. I am consistently impressed with their level of knowledge and their quality of customer service. Elijah in particular has always gone out of his way to educate us and to help us care for our wood-burning stove and chimney. Highly recommend them.”

Customers who write reviews tend to name the person who did the work: Matt on a roof replacement, Elijah on a wood stove, Ezra on a chimney inspection, J. Forbis on an appointment. A team that explains what it finds is the whole idea.
